George
Washington’s Remarkable Vision

NOTE:
This article is a reprint of a newspaper article first published in the NATIONAL
TRIBUNE in 1859, and then
published by Wesley Bradshaw in the
National Review, Vol. 4, No. 12, December 1880 (and handed down to me by my
grandmother). The last time I ever saw Anthony Sherman was on July 4, 1859, in
Independence Square. He was then 99 years old, and becoming very feeble. But
though so old, his dimming eyes rekindled as he gazed upon Independence Hall,
which he came to visit once more. “Let us go into the hall,” he said. “I want to
tell you an incident of Washington’s life - one which no one alive knows of
except myself; and, if you live, you will before long, see it verified.
While I believe
the vision was genuine; something is amiss at the end. See my comments after the
vision

“From
the opening of the Revolution we experienced all phases of fortune, now good and
now ill; one time victorious and another conquered. The darkest period we had, I
think, was when Washington, after several reverses, retreated to Valley Forge,
where he resolved to spend the winter of 1777. Ah! I have often seen our dear commander’s
care-worn cheeks, as he would be conversing with a confidential officer about
the condition of his poor soldiers. You have doubtless heard the story of
Washington’s going to the thicket to pray. Well, it was not only true, but he
used often to pray in secret for aid and comfort from God, the interposition of
whose Divine Providence brought us safely through the darkest days of
tribulation.
“One day, I remember well,
the chilly winds whistled through the leafless trees, though the sky was
cloudless and the sun shone brightly, he remained in his quarters nearly all the
afternoon alone. When he came out, I noticed that his face was a shade paler
than usual, and there seemed to be something on his mind of more than ordinary
importance.
Returning just after dusk,
he dispatched an orderly to the quarters of the officer I mention who was
presently in attendance. After a preliminary conversation of about half an hour,
Washington, gazing upon his companion with that strange look of dignity which he
alone could command said to the latter: “‘I do not know whether it
is owing to anxiety of my mind, or what, but this afternoon, as I was sitting at
this table engaged in preparing a dispatch, something seemed to disturb me.
Looking up, I beheld
standing opposite me a singularly beautiful female. So astonished was I, for I
had given strict orders not to be disturbed, that it was some moments before I
found language to inquire the cause of her presence. A second, a third, and even
a fourth time did I repeat my question, but received no answer from my
mysterious visitor except a slight raising of her eyes.
‘Presently I
heard a voice saying, “Son of the Republic, look and learn,” while at the same
time my visitor extended her arm eastwardly. I now beheld a heavy white vapor at
some distance rising fold upon fold. This gradually dissipated, and I looked
upon a strange scene. Before me lay spread out in one vast plain all the
countries of the world---Europe, Asia, Africa, and America. I saw rolling and
tossing, between Europe and America, the billows of the Atlantic, and between
Asia and America lay the Pacific. “Son of the Republic,” said the
same mysterious voice as before, “look and learn.”
At that moment I beheld a
dark, shadowy being, like an angel, standing, or rather floating, in the hollow
air, between Europe and America. Dipping water out of the ocean in the hollow of
each hand, he sprinkled some upon America with his right hand while with his
left hand he cast some on Europe.
Immediately a cloud raised
from these countries and joined in mid-ocean. For a while it remained
stationary, and then moved slowly westward, until it enveloped America in its
murky folds. Sharp flashes of lightning gleamed through it at intervals, and I
heard the smothered groans and cries of the American people.
‘A second time the angel
dipped water from the ocean, and sprinkled it out as before. The dark cloud was
then drawn back to the ocean, in whose heaving billows it sank from view. A
third time I heard the mysterious voice saying, “Son of the Republic, look and
learn.”
I cast my eyes upon America
and beheld villages and towns and cities springing up one after another until
the whole land, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, was dotted with them. Again I
head the mysterious voice say, “Son of the Republic, the end of the century
cometh, look and learn.”
At this the dark shadowy
angel turned his face southward, and from Africa I saw an ill-omened spectre
approach our land. It flitted slowly over every town and city of the latter. The
inhabitants presently set themselves in battle array against each other.
As I continued looking, I
saw a bright angel, on whose brow rested a crown of light, on which was traced
the word “Union,” bearing the American flag which he placed between the divided
nation, and said, “Remember ye are brethren.” Instantly, the inhabitants casting
from them their weapons became friends once more, and united around the National
Standard.
‘And again (the third
peril) I heard the mysterious voice saying, “Son of the Republic, look and
learn.” At this, the dark, shadowy angel placed a trumpet to his mouth and blew
three distinct blasts; and taking water from the ocean, he sprinkled it upon
Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Then my eyes beheld a
fearful scene. From each of these countries arose thick, black clouds that were
soon joined into one. And throughout this mass, there gleamed a dark red light
by which I saw hordes of armed men, who, moving with the cloud, marched by land
and sailed by sea to America, which country was enveloped in the volume of
cloud.
And I dimly saw these vast
armies devastate the whole country, and burn the villages, towns and cities that
I beheld springing up. “‘As my ears listened to the thundering of
the cannon, clashing of swords, and the shouts and cries of millions in mortal
combat., I again heard the mysterious voice saying, “Son of the Republic, look
and learn.” When the voice had ceased, the dark shadowy angel placed his trumpet
once more to his mouth, and blew a long and fearful blast.
‘Instantly a light as of a
thousand suns shone down from above me, and pierced and broke into fragments the
dark cloud which enveloped America. At the same moment the angel upon whose head
still shone the word “Union,” and who bore our national flag in one hand and a
sword in the other, descended from the heavens attended by legions of white
spirits.
These immediately joined
the inhabitants of America, who I perceived were well-nigh overcome, but who
immediately taking courage again closed up their broken ranks and renewed the
battle. Again, amid the fearful noise of the conflict, I heard the mysterious
voice saying, “Son of the Republic, look and learn.”
‘As the voice
ceased, the shadowy angel for the last time dipped water from the ocean and
sprinkled it upon America. Instantly the dark cloud rolled back, together with
the armies it had brought, leaving the inhabitants of the land victorious.
‘Then once more I beheld
the villages, towns and cities, springing up where I had seen them before, while
the bright angel, planting the azure standard he had brought in the midst of
them, cried with a loud voice: “While the stars remain, and the heavens send
down dew upon the earth, so long shall the Union last.”
And taking from his brow
the crown on which was blazoned the word “Union,” he placed it upon the
Standard, while the people, kneeling
down, said “Amen.”
‘The scene
instantly began to fade and dissolve, and I at last saw nothing but the rising,
curling vapor I at first beheld. This also disappearing, I found myself once
more gazing upon the mysterious visitor, who in the same voice I had heard
before, said, “Son of the Republic, what you have seen is thus interpreted.
Three great perils will come upon the Republic. The most fearful is the third.”
“
(The
comment on his word ‘third’ is: The help against the THIRD peril comes in the
shape of Divine assistance; passing which, the whole world united shall not
prevail against her. Let every child of the Republic learn to live for his God,
his land and his Union.)”
‘With these words the vision
vanished, and I started from my seat and felt that I had seen a vision wherein
had been shown me the birth, progress, and destiny of the UNITED STATES.”
“Such, my friends,” concluded the venerable narrator, “were the words I heard
from Washington’s own lips, and America will do well to profit by them.”
(End of Original Vision)

While I believe the future demise of this country will come to pass
according to the prophetic words of many that see an impending destruction
of America; I want to briefly share what I believe the Lord has revealed
concerning this particular vision.
As many have assumed; this vision represents
three times
after
the Revolutionary War when war
will be fought on the American mainland.
The first was the war of 1812 which lasted
approximately two years.
Next was the civil war that is accurately
portrayed as being an ill-omened spectre (slavery) from the continent of Africa.
The third war on the American mainland is
portrayed as a cloud that forms from Europe, Asia, and Africa.
As I've
said; while I cannot personally testify that I have received visions or dreams
concerning what has been spoken prophetically over America; I believe what some are warning of
may
be this third
conflict that Washington saw;
especially if this is a genuine historical
document of a vision given to our first president.
When it comes to extra biblical documents that
are attributed as being
historical and prophetic; I believe for the sake of the
gospel and the body of Christ; my first obligation is to be a skeptic;
especially since the first publication of this dates to only
one year
before the civil war.
As has been stated; I believe the U.S. as
one of the seven heads of the last days beast will be the
'head that has been mortally wounded.'
This wounding could conceivably happen another
way as this in fact could be a false vision. If this specific vision does
not materialize though; this does not negate the overwhelming prophetic evidence
concerning the fate of this country.
Keep in mind though that according to this
vision; the first
attack
(The War of 1812)
and the second time of turmoil
(The Civil War)
both came to pass.
Assuming that this vision is historically
genuine; dating back to Valley Forge in the winter of 1777 - then that would certainly make this apparent accuracy very significant.
If this vision was truly given to George
Washington; then what is possible
concerning conclusions that have been reached
from scripture and / or current events
is this. What Washington
may have seen is in fact
the "mortally wounded"
head and
the second part of the verse which says
"and his deadly wound was healed. And
all the world marveled and followed the beast."
According to what was said earlier concerning
"pesher' interpretation of prophecy that is unsealed; I
cannot
say
about this with any certainty that I
know this is
'from the Lord'
and that it is true...
as the wounding of one the seven heads is still an
unsealed
prophetic event awaiting confirmation; and I do not want to be presumptuous.
I will share a flag vision later that might be
partial confirmation; which is why I have some liberty to share what
you've just read.
I know what you've just read may seem
confusing, and in all honesty; I would have left this
vision entirely out of this release and not have addressed it at all except
for this ONE point...
If this 'vision' is in fact an historical document, and if it does happen according to
what is written; then the interpretation given at the end will be
a source of tremendous deception.
The following comments assume the vision is
genuine...
The Deception
I do know of at least one prophetic minister who
testifies to seeing an angel called 'Union' and I receive this minister's
testimony as I believe this person has a strong gift of 'discerning of spirits'
(1 Corinthians 12:4-11)... At the same time I
do not believe
that George Washington as a documented member of
the Freemasons had anything close to this level of discernment; and the picture that
is painted as the deadly wound being healed or the rescue of America by a
heavenly host is in fact a deception.
Consider the wording that a 'dark shadowy angel'
with a blast from his trumpet is calling down an angel called 'Union'
attended by legions of white spirits.
All is well that ends well...right?
WRONG! It is either the
LORD JESUS CHRIST attended by
the host of heaven, or it is satan attended by
legions of deceiving spirits disguised as angels of light. Legions of
angels do not 'attend' anyone except the Father or the Son.
America is aided from 'above' and the deadly
wound is healed... Now look what is set up (causing the people to kneel) It is
an azure Standard...
NOTHING
is said about giving glory to Jesus Christ.
In fact the roots of the word 'Azure' historically is French; before that from
Medieval Latin; before that Arabic, and before that Persian... in other words
from
ancient Babylon.
Finally we are left with the admonishment "Let
every child of the Republic learn to live for his God, his land and the Union."
Live for
his God - common Masonic practice does not
place one faith over another... quoting from their material
"Masonry makes
no profession of Christianity... but looks forward to the time when the
labor of our ancient brethren shall be symbolized by the erection of a
spiritual temple... in which there shall be but one altar and one worship;
one common altar of Masonry on which the Veda, Shastra, Sade, Zend-Avesta,
Koran and Holy Bible shall lie... and at whose shrine the Hindoo, the Persian,
the Assyrian, the Chaldean, the Egyptian, the Chinese, the Mohammedan, the Jew
and the Christian may kneel... "
from the 'Fellowcraft Degree' pg. 95...
"Masonically, the Book of the Law is that sacred
book which is believed by the Mason of any particular religion to contain the
revealed
will of God... thus to the Christian Mason (it is) the Old and New Testament; to
the Jew the Old Testament, to the Musselman (Muslim), the Koran; to the Brahman
the Vedas; and to the parsee the Zendavesta. "
from 'Masonry Defined', "a compilation of the
writings of Albert Pike and Albert Mackey" - pp. 78, 79
Understand the god of the Freemason is referred to as "The
Great Architect of the Universe."

I believe in my heart that
if
the third part of this
vision comes to pass as portrayed by and attributed to George Washington; then
this will be a demonic takeover of the United States leading to full scale
persecution of those who profess faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of the One
True and Living God.
I understand that I am going against
conventional thinking, but I cannot foresee anything good coming from a vision
that does not clearly acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

While we are here; this seems like an appropriate
place to discuss another George W. briefly...
First though let me clearly say that regardless
of the conclusion implied here; according to 1 Timothy 2:1-2 --- I also exhort
"that
supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,
for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and
peaceable life in all godliness and reverence."
Regardless of conclusions then; I will be praying for President Bush that the
eyes of his understanding would be opened to see what is truly happening, and
that he would be kept safe; enabling him to accomplish the will of the Lord
Jesus Christ.
Having said this though; I would put forth that
the Episcopalian religion of former President Bush, and the Methodist religion
of the current president BOTH
are given over to the replacement theology
concerning the nation of Israel.
This is important to understand from the
standpoint that according to President Bush's religious training; he has no
moral or spiritual dilemma concerning the dividing of the land of Israel.
This in fact shows that the public policy that President Bush is putting forth
is consistent with his core beliefs; which taken by itself is admirable.
This however does not change the fact that according to the Word of God
concerning Israel; President Bush is also deceived.
I will ask one question though... a question for
you to seek the Lord on.
A little more background though...
Recalling an earlier quote:
"Masonically, the Book of the Law is that sacred
book which is believed by the Mason of any particular religion to contain the
revealed will of God... thus to the Christian Mason (it is) the Old and New
Testament; to the Jew the Old Testament, to the Musselman (Muslim), the Koran;
to the Brahman the Vedas; and to the parsee the Zendavesta. "
And now a quote from President Bush's inaugural
address of January 20th 2005...
"Self-government relies, in the end, on the
governing of the self. That edifice of character is built in families, supported
by communities with standards, and sustained in our national life by the truths
of Sinai, the Sermon on the Mount, the words of the Koran, and the varied faiths
of our people."
As this direct quote from our president elevates
the words of the Koran to the same level as the words of Christ, and to the Law
given to Moses at Mt. Sinai; my question is this.
Do the words of this president reflect an open
attempt to placate the Muslim world in hopes of lessening violence, or do they
betray a
veiled agreement with the tenets of the Masonic Society; or is it a
statement that reflects both?
This question may require fasting and praying;
but it is a question that only the Lord can truly answer in the recesses of your
heart.
